Neon Trees is habit-forming

Today, I eagerly went to my local record store to get my hands on one of the most anticipated albums of the year. Although that store is usually pretty fantastic when it comes to having new music, alas, no Neon Trees in sight. I went back home empty-handed, but not heavy-hearted. There’s always iTunes or Amazon.

Habits is different than what I expected. The first track, “Sins of My Youth” comes out with this wonderful type of spoken word (tying in why the album is called Habits) and then gets into the nitty gritty of the band’s sound. Just when you think the entire album might be high energy hits, “Love and Affection” shows a slightly softer side – not too soft though, just a little more calm.

It doesn’t take long to get to the single, “Animal,” which is still as yummy as it was the first time I heard it. It’s one of those tracks that I doubt I will ever get sick of, even if it’s on the radio all the time.

The album goes back into a calmer version, but I don’t necessarily mind it. I think it shows that the band is not a one-trick pony.

All in all, this album is pretty damn good. You might want to pick up this debut, because I have a feeling that these crazy kids from Utah are going to blow up very, very soon.

Hits: “Animal,” “Sins of My Youth,” and “In The Next Room”
