Crystal Castles (feat. Robert Smith), “Not In Love” (Platinum Blonde cover)
I mostly adore indie rock, but I have a very special place in my heart for electronic music. It stems from my raver days (and no, I never did drugs. High on life, people). So, when the 1980s and electronic beats get wrapped up with a pretty bow, the result is this song from Canadian duo Crystal Castles. Double bonus because it’s a cover (and you all know how much I LOVE covers). Robert Smith, lead singer of The Cure, lends his voice to this track, which has an upbeat tempo to contradict the sad lyrics. If anyone has the ability to pull off that kind of combination, it’s Smith.
This song is, no doubt, a club hit. I can already see hundreds of goth-lite and emo kids singing at the top of their lungs while the colors of a disco ball dance across their heavily eye-lined faces.
